Going Beyond the Pink Ribbon – Clever Ways Businesses Can Help.

barakribbon-copyThe pink ribbons are showing up again. Look around and you’ll see them on the doors of businesses, the lapels of bankers and the back windows of minivans. Jacob Tyler Brand + Digital Agency has one on the front page of our website right now. Yes, it’s National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and thankfully, people and businesses are showing their support.

Breast Cancer is downright ruthless. According to Breastcancer.org,

“About 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. In 2016, an estimated 246,660 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 61,000 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer.”

Those are some sobering statistics and unfortunately many of us have known someone – spouse, sister, mother, friend, or partner – who has either survived or lost the fight to this non-discriminant foe. Several Jacob Tyler team members have family or friends who have been touched by this disease as well, including the mother of our founder, Les Kollegian, so this month is important to us on a personal level. Jacob Tyler Gets Dirty! (and a little sandy)

Ahhhh, a perfect Saturday morning in San Diego. The sun is shining, the waves are glimmering, the seagulls are belting out their favorite rendition of a Kanye West auto-tuned melody. Nothing beats a day at the beach, unless of course, your stepping over Pizza Port boxes and picking styrofoam scraps off of your feet. Each day millions of tons of garbage are dumped into our environment. Without the help of volunteers and dedicated citizens, all of that garbage just sits there. On April 16th, the JT team hit the sand at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas for our first semi-annual beach clean up.

With our snazzy gloves and recyclable bags provided by Surfrider Foundation, we spent the next couple of hours scouring the shore in search of tiny bits of manmade debris. Being a branding agency, we are obviously concerned with how things look but we are also driven by a passion for making things better. The beach clean up was an opportunity for our company to come together for something bigger than ourselves. We value our environment and dedicate time to making it a cleaner place. Whether it is by picking up trash or recommending paperless marketing solutions (so we don’t have to pick up the trash)we strive for a more sustainable world. We also value our clients that do the same. From OneRoof Energy’s dedication to a world powered by the sun, or EICP‘s work in global energy-technology, water and environmental management markets.

If you are a company that is passionate about the future of the planet, we would love to work with you. To learn more about what we do, check out our capabilities and then connect with us for the next steps. Together, we can make this world a more beautiful place.

The Art Institute of California – San Diego taps Jacob Tyler Brand + Digital Agency for Pilot Educational Program for Senior Level Students

The Art Institute of California – San Diego has reached out to Jacob Tyler to develop a new educational experience for third and fourth year students. Dubbed “The Jacob Tyler Experience,” the class will be driven by a real time case study and meet at the offices of Jacob Tyler and Ai California – San Diego.

San Diego, CA – April 28, 2016 – The Art Institute of California – San Diego, a campus of Argosy University, has reached out to Jacob Tyler to develop a new educational experience for third and fourth year students. Dubbed “The Jacob Tyler Experience”, the class will be driven by a real time case study and meet at the offices of Jacob Tyler and Ai California – San Diego.

Corey J. Willis, Academic Director at The Art Institute of California – San Diego had the idea to create a more interactive and “real life” situation for current senior level students. Corey stated “Les (CEO of Jacob Tyler), an adjunct instructor at Ai California – San Diego in 2014, had great reviews during his tenure. I thought who better to help drive a behind the scenes look at departments within an agency and enable students to see how clients move through the design and business process.“

“I thought this was a tremendous opportunity,” said Les Kollegian, Jacob Tyler founder and CEO. He added, “During my undergrad and master’s studies, I never had the opportunity to spend time within an agency and be immersed in agency roles and responsibilities, much less have the responsibility of meeting with an actual client. I believe this will be really helpful for students to understand real world challenges and understand the actual business behind branding and design. We’re creating an experience disguised as a school disguised as an agency. It is a school to work initiative focusing on professionalism and I believe it will be fun and rewarding for all involved. ”

Deny Ehrlich, a 30 year industry graphic design veteran and instructor, will be joining Kollegian and leading the effort on the school’s behalf. Both Ehrlich and Kollegian have chosen Computers 2 San Diego Kids (C2DSK), a San Diego based non-profit organization, as the client the students will assist with a full company re-brand and online presence. Ms Ehrlich stated, “The students can’t be happier to be chosen for this new experience. We were careful to choose a student body with diverse interests and skills excited to collaborate with people unlike themselves. They are all interested in the experience itself as opposed to what doors the experience might open.”

Students will be required to attend classes in both locations and client strategy and planning meetings. They will be given specific goals to achieve for the C2SDK rebranding and be responsible for developing creative briefs, creative rationale, and how they intend to accomplish business goals and objectives. The 11 week class will end in June 2016 with a final client presentation and delivery of new branding collateral.

San Diego Branding & Rebranding Business

Turning Strategic Energy into Powerful Design Execution

We’ve recently partnered with a leading provider in the residential solar industry to create a compelling and highly engaging digital experience to inspire homeowners to go solar.

As with all projects, we focus heavily on our discovery process to learn as much as we can about our clients – who we view more-so as partners. In order to create a successful solution to the challenge we’ve been presented, it’s imperative that our team fully understands their business as well as the industry and market they serve. While we’re all familiar with the many benefits of going solar, the process of flipping the switch from traditional power to solar energy can seem complicated, when in reality it’s rather simple. We’ve been in education mode recently and have learned a great deal about the solar industry – and believe it or not, the process is not all that different than how we operate as an agency. In our case, instead of the sun delivering the energy, we build strong relationships with our clients allowing us to collect energy directly from them.

StrategicEnergy_image
Just as solar panels collect energy from the sun and convert direct current (DC) electricity into alternating current (AC) electricity, we at JT collect energy from our clients, harness it and convert their DC into creative strategy (CS). The energy of CS flows from our creative leadership through our talented team of designers where it is distributed through powerful design execution creating both an efficient process and a successful end result.

On the Twelfth Day of Creative: Our Team

As told by our CEO, Les Kollegian…

On the Twelfth Day of Creative, I’m both joyful and thankful for all that Jacob Tyler has done this past year. After some VERY big changes and a major transition to a new office in the beginning of the year, we have managed to build our team and frankly, I feel our culture is the BEST it has ever been. We love the work we are doing for our clients and it shows. How can I tell? It’s not just the awards and the type of work we are doing… it’s the fact that our client retention and satisfaction is ALSO the best it has ever been. Our clients keep coming back for more and we are all thrilled.

I would love to say there is one project I am particularly proud of, but I take pride in my team and all the projects we do. I appreciate everyone who contributes to accomplish our goals and the 100% you bring every day to create success for our clients, and us.

Thank you all and have a GREAT and happy holiday.

On the Eleventh Day of Creative: Eva Mann

As told by Senior Brand Manager, Amanda Schremser

On the Eleventh Day of Creative, I want to share a project that’s extra merry and bright, and nothing says bright quite like Hollywood runway models, sequin tailored uniforms and the lights of a fashion photoshoot!

11908612_10204640207955167_8785239627164510971_o

When we think fashion, our minds immediately go to the likes of Channel, Marc Jacobs and Vera Wang. But what about the fashion that surrounds our every day lives–the fashion we don’t find on the racks at Nordstoms?

Eva Mann Designs is a fashion forward company who focuses on specialty tailored uniform wear. When you experience brands like Caesar’s Palace, Medieval Times or Margaritaville, Eva Mann Designs is in the details and their uniforms are playing a major part in delivering those experiences.

EM Designs has been around for over 20 years, and like any strong designer, knew it was time for a brand modernization. Jacob Tyler was tasked with updating the EM logo, directing a photo shoot for a new uniform line, creating a brochure to showcase their specialties and most important, redesigning their website.

Eva Mann Jacob Tyler 11 Day Xmas

Just like Eva’s one-of-a-kind uniforms, Jacob Tyler made sure everything we created for EM Designs was fabulously fashionable yet functional. And since responsification is the new black, we made sure to perfectly pair their site with innovation as well: evamanndesigns.com

So the next time you walk into the Hard Rock, Bally’s or one of Trump’s hotels or spas, make sure to pay extra close attention to your valet’s top hat, your waiters tuxedo or your nightly visual entertainer’s headdress. There is a good chance Eva’s team created it and Jacob Tyler is proud to have contributed to such a fine brand.

On the Seventh Day of Creative: SeaSpine

As told by Creative Director, Michelle Peck…

On the Seventh Day of Creative, I am reminded of the partnership we’ve had with our client, SeaSpine who designs high quality hardware and Orthobiologics for spine surgery. Being a new, spin-off brand from a large company, we needed to tell a unique and compelling story that would allow them to stand out in a competitive space. Along with our videographer, Nadia Borowski Scott and her talented team, we traveled around Southern California to capture how SeaSpine is StrongerTogether with their collaborative approach.

SS-1  SS-3

We were invited to go behind-the-scenes and scrub up with their laboratory technicians, take a peek into the metal engineering and testing facilities, interview a respected orthopedic surgeon, and learn how such small devices can have such a positive impact on a person’s life. My favorite part of filming was the ocean-front beach house in Encinitias where we sat down with SeaSpine’s new CEO and heard about his vision for the future while the waves rolled by in the distance. It was an inspiring moment for both the Jacob Tyler and SeaSpine teams and we couldn’t be more proud of the story we told in this video.

On the Fifth Day of Creative: Out of Africa

As told by our Developer, Thomas LaCroix…

On the Fifth Day of Creative, I’ve gotta say, there’s nothing quite like Out of Africa; it’s part wildlife park and part ropes course. I’ve worked on multiple site updates and email campaigns for them, and the response rate from their fans/customers is awesome to see.

Out of Africa shares a truly unique relationship with its clients. They are family-friendly and always thinking of compelling ways to make their park-goers feel at home. They focus on their customer engagement and keep them up-to-date on deals and events.

OOA-holiday-post

Both human and non-human share the spotlight at Out of Africa, with Liberty and his pride starring in most of the campaigns I’ve been a part of. They showcased the lions’ personalities in their Thanksgiving email. Out of everyone who received the update, over 30% read it, which is a significant level of engagement.

After working with them on multiple projects, I can totally understand why fans are so drawn to Out of Africa.

On the Fourth Day of Creative: MaxLinear

As told by our Interactive Art Director, Azenith “Zee” Salenga…

On the fourth Day of Creative, I present to you the 2015 MaxLinear IBC Convention posters! MaxLinear is a technology company specializing in high-performance broadband and networking semiconductors. We were tasked with creating 12 posters for use at the 2015 IBC Conference in Amsterdam. To be a success, phase one of the project required a considerable amount of product understanding.

ML-1a

Prior to kicking off design, the MaxLinear team provided us with detailed diagrams and walked us through each—a few were fairly straightforward, but majority were quite complex. The challenge was to translate these mockups into something that made sense to a novice audience while remaining on brand. After some deliberation and research, we decided to take an infographic approach comprised of minimalistic visuals and illustrations portraying both speed and data.

This was an exciting challenge, but the outcome was truly rewarding. Working with the MaxLinear team was a great experience and we are thrilled to have made a lasting impact on their business and their brand.ML-2a
