Nate's work has also been quoted or mentioned in several business, new media, and technical web development books.
His early accolades came while at Western Washington University where he created dynamic keyword filtered RSS feeds. Then again in 2007, Nate gained publicity by popularizing the use of "hashtags", a context-giving short code for micro-publishing platforms.
