Charlie has learned from seventeen years of owning a business that his success is measured only by his clients' success. He and his team thrive on partnerships with clients built through careful listening, individualized service, and great design. A native San Diegan, Charlie earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of San Diego, and earned a post-graduate degree in graphic design and advertising. After gathering experience in advertising and public relations, Charlie channeled his energies into building his own business and opened Van Vechten Creative in 1992. The firm's client list has ranged from luxury hotels such as Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, Four Seasons Las Vegas, and Four Seasons Punta Mita, to international firms such as Safety Syringes, to local nonprofits such as Hubbs-SeaWorld San Diego and The San Diego Symphony.
Charlie has been active both in the San Diego business and graphic arts communities. He is the immediate past president of AIGA San Diego, the professional association for graphic designers. He is an active member of the San Diego Rotary Club (one of the country's largest), and also has served on the boards for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the East County Performing Arts Center, and the Mount Helix Park Foundation.
His commitment to making a difference in our community has not gone unnoticed. Twice Charlie received the San Diego Performing Arts League's "Star Award" for his dedication to advancing the arts in San Diego. In 2005 the San Diego Metropolitan Magazine honored Charlie with a "40 under Forty" award for young business leaders who have made a positive impact through their work. His and his team's award-winning designs have appeared in design industry publications for their innovation, most recently in 2009. His wife, Renée, gives him extra points for being a gourmet chef, wine enthusiast, and travel buff; his kids, Ava and Zachary, have bestowed on him the "Best Bedtime Story Reader" award.
