NIKE always stands by its core purpose

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

We often talk about “Core Purpose” when speaking with clients about their brand. A core purpose is essentially what your business will stand by in both good and turbulent times, even if your business mission/vision changes. Thanks to changes in technology, marketing environments, and more… obviously, all businesses must embrace change. Even during change, your business core purpose must stay consistent. For example, 3M has a core purpose that states “Solving Ordinary Problems Innovatively”. They stand by this with every product they manufacture right down to the “sticky note”. NIKE’s core purpose is to “Experience the emotion of winning while crushing your competition”. Have you ever noticed that virtually every commercial they create embraces this statement? Below I have posted one of my all time favorite NIKE commercials. Not only is the concept fantastic, but the execution is flawless. Check it out.

It’s too bad they can never play it again on TV since they used Michael Vick.

Big Brother (Google) Really is Watching

Web Design San Diego Staff
We were just talking internally (around the water cooler) about a story we heard that a man got busted by his wife in a car with another woman thanks to the Google van. Literally 24 hours later, we were doing a search for our office in Google maps and stumbled on this image of Cole Miller and Jessica Recht, two of Jacob Tyler’s graphic designers walking down the street. Hmmmmm…what were they REALLY doing!?!?
You definitely want to be careful when walking the streets because you never know whose going to catch you in an awkward position. Here are some other wild Google Van Photos

Design Skillz…

Monday, March 16th, 2009

by Jonathan Marshall

I found this unbelievable Design blog that features five new up-and-coming artists/graphic designers with every new post. Although my focus is on writing, and my degree is in advertising, I would love to be able to produce work like these guys. The artists featured on Think Design are VERY impressive, interesting and inspiring.

I think there are graphic design companies San Diego that have quality designers and artists, but then there are artists like the ones featured in this blog that really set the bar at almost unreachable levels.

My favorite out of all the featured artists from this entry is Ralph Karam, he uses that retro 80’s bright color theme throughout his work. Hot pink, yellow, green and blue are everywhere, and you can also tell he has a deep-connection with the ones and twos, there are a few turntables in the mix as well. He also has an amazing piece that he did on an entire wall of a three-story building, that is outstanding. I don’t even want to know how long it took to finish that thing, unbelievable. The guy is SERIOUSLY talented, and even though I couldn’t even come close to replicating anything like what these artists have done if my life depended on it, I appreciate quality and their abilities.
